Move DNS to a New Server
Move DNS to a New Name Server
All servers connected to the Internet are assigned a unique IP address so they can be properly located. The Domain Name System, or DNS, is a network of databases spread throughout the Internet that is responsible for routing easy-to-remember text-based names to their corresponding numeric IP Addresses, for example www.networksolutions.com routes to 216.168.224.69.
In order to maintain full control of a domain name, keep the domain name hosted on Network Solutions name servers. If you are moving your name servers to utilize services such as e-mail or Web sites with other providers, you can keep your domain names on Network Solutions name servers and simply change your DNS settings using the DNS Manager – Advanced Tools.
Note:
- A Primary Contact, Account Administrative Contact, or an Account Technical Contact can change or configure a Domain Name Server (DNS).
- Changing a DNS may cause service loss if you have active Web Forwarding, E-mail or Web Site services.
- If you select a Network Solutions hosted server, it will make all name servers Network Solutions hosted.
- DNS changes may take up to 24 hours to update throughout the Internet.
